Find a Node - Use these links to navigate to any of the 8 publicly accessible PDS Nodes.

This bar indicates that you are within the PDS enterprise which includes 6 science discipline nodes and 2 support nodes which are overseen by the Project Management Office at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC). Each node is led by an expert in the subject discipline, supported by an advisory group of other practitioners of that discipline, and subject to selection and approval under a regular NASA Research Announcement.

Hayabusa Near Infrared Spectrometer (NIRS)

    Description

The Near Infrared Spectrometer (NIRS) on Hayabusa was designed to study the mineralogy and physical properties of the surface of asteroid 25143 Itokawa. NIRS has a 64 channel InGaAs photodiode array detector and a diffraction grating combined with a prism. The detector covered wavelengths from 0.76 to 2.1 microns with a dispersion per pixel of 23.6 nm. The field of view is 0.1 x 0.1 degrees. Over 80,000 spectra were obtained from September to November 2005 at solar phase angles from 0 to 38 degrees.
